Pismo Beach Youth Theater was
started by Olivia Miller in the summer of 2003 and includes theater
classes for kids ages 18 months—young adults. Our debut shows were
Into the Woods and Are You My Mother with a total of 20 students.
After the first year our program more than doubled in size and after
the second year we expanded our classes to San Luis Obispo. In the
summer of 2008 we expanded our program to Santa Maria and it has
been a huge success. Now in our 8th season with 30 shows to our
credit we are happy to be working with both the Clark Center and
Studio of Performing Arts to make our shows a success!
Pismo Beach Youth Theater's mission is to:
Strive to produce high quality
children's theater.
Offer affordable classes for every
child.
Create a healthy environment for
students to learn in with good role
models.
Train students who are interested in
directing.
Keep all children busy and learning
with sitting around time at a
minimum.

Craig Kincaid: Guitar and vocals, Tony Pires: Mandolin and vocals, Sally Vedder: Stand up bass and vocals, Ralph Goff: Guitar and vocals
SLO Pokes is a
Central Coast, California acoustic string band playing an eclectic
mix of bluegrass, country folk, blues, Irish fiddle and original
songs. We pride ourselves on tight 3 part harmonies and inventive
arrangements to familiar music. You can listen to and watch videos
of the band during our recording session in Cambria at our website
www.slopokes.com. Songs recorded during that session are
available on our live CD recorded at Painted Sky Studio produced by
Craig Kincaid.
SLO Pokes has
been playing together for the last 2 years at various venues on the
Central Coast. We play private parties, Brown Bag concerts, local
clubs and wineries.
Craig Kincaid
(guitar) has been playing guitar since the 60's and has been living
in San Luis Obispo for 6 years. Craig is a songwriter and vocalist;
he also collects rare acoustic instruments and enjoys photography
and the movies. Craig sings lead, plays rhythm and some flat
picking to help create the SLO Pokes sound.
Tony Pires (mandolin) has been
playing the mandolin 28 years and has been living in Los Osos for 2
years. Tony also plays with the Central Valley bluegrass band, The
Grass Less Traveled. Tony sings lead, baritone and along with the
rest of the band, helps arrange songs to get the SLO Pokes "sound",
and is our sound technician.
Sally Vedder (upright bass) has been
playing the upright bass for 12 years. She currently lives in
Atascadero. Sally provides lead & harmony vocals for the SLO Pokes
band and some original songs. She is a familiar face in the Central
Coast acoustic music scene, having been in many bands in many years,
including (currently) Better Late Than Never and the Christine
Rogers Trio. She also keeps busy with (too) many hobbies, like
beading, crochet, wirework, fabric dyeing, pet sitting, rock
hounding, and is in the process of building her own home in
Mexico.

Caption: Pacific Coast Railway number 101
crosses Nipomo Creek on this model of bridge 70, located a few miles north of the Santa
Maria River. This model was built for the San Luis Obispo Model Railroad Association
(SLOMRA.org). The Pacific Coast Rwy served the central coast from 1875 until 1942.
Text: The Pacific Coast Railway was a narrow gauge (36 inches between the rails) line that
ran from Harford's Pier at Port San Luis to San Luis Obispo, then south through Arroyo
Grande, Nipomo, Santa Maria, Orcutt, Los Alamos and Los Olivos. Before there were
paved roads the railroad hauled the lumber used to build SLO county, ag products, gravel,
oil and passengers. The Pacific Coast Rwy served the central coast from 1875
until 1942. Engine 101 has a 2-6-0 wheel arrangement and was built in December 1893
by Baldwin. The engine was scrapped in 1924. This is a model of the
Pacific Coast Railway bridge number 70 that crosses Nipomo Creek at milepost 38.5.
The tracks crossed this bridge just north of where Highway 101 crosses Nipomo Creek
today. The high tension power line is still there. The tracks also cross
Thompson Road just north of the bridge. Thompson Road is the original El Camino Real
used by the Spanish missionaries and the road Lt. Col. John C. Fremont's troops took on
his way to take California from Mexico. This O-Scale (1:48) module was built as part of a
larger layout for the San Luis Obispo Model Railroad Association (SLOMRA.org). The
engine is a modified Bachmann On30 Mogul. The Hereford cows are a common range breed
of the period. The model was researched and built by Dennis Pearson of Nipomo,
California.

Two years ago Ballooney initiated his afternoon closing "Kid's Parade" This
was a big hit and proves to be bigger and better this year! The kids should gather
with Ballooney next to the Rotary Bandstand at 4:00pm to receive their costumes and
instructions. Once all are in costume the group will parade around the Village
Green, across the Swinging Bridge and end up circling through the Olohan
Alley. Parents are encouraged to join their small children since Ballooney
will have a costume for them too! Immediately after the parade President Lincoln
will scatter $100 in pennies for the kids to gather up!
