RULES AND REGULATIONS

AMATEUR CHILI-FEST

1.       The contestant is required to bring 5 gallons of chili.   There is no entry fee.

2.       The contestant is to prepare the chili and bring it to the event.  The chili must be prepared in a certified kitchen.  If you do not have a certified kitchen to prepare the chili, we have a community building with a certified kitchen available.  Please call the Recreation Supervisor at 473-5476 for available times.

3.       The contestant is required to bring a portable stove or heating device to keep your chili hot.   There is minimal electricity available at the site.  The contestant is required to have a lid on the chili at all times.  The lid should open and close with each serve.

4.       The Arroyo Grande Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department will be providing the tables, chairs, table clothes, crackers, water, serving spoon, and the taste kits.

5.       All entries must have titles and be edible.

6.       Ingredients must be written down; portions may be omitted in the case of secret recipes,

7.       Judging of the chili will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.   You will need to arrive between 5:00 and 5:30 to set up.  We will start serving 6:00 p.m. sharp.  If a contestant should run out of chili, the contest is over and tallying of the votes will begin. 

8.       The categories for the contest include:  Hottest, Most Original, Best Tasting Vegetarian, and Best Tasting.

9.       1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place prizes will be awarded in each category.  The award ceremony will take place approximately 7:30 p.m.

10. Participates must notify the department by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, 2004, if they wish to enter. 

11. Flyers advertising your business are permitted.

In consideration of being permitted to take part in the activity, or utilize the facility or service set forth herein, I expressly agree as follows:   I hereby acknowledge that the activity set forth herein contains dangers and risks and may result in injury to the participant.  I hereby assume all risks of personal injury, death, and property damage from any causes whatsoever arising while my child, or I, are participating in such activity.  I, or my child, are in good health and are physically able to participate in such activity.  I agree to unconditionally waive and release the City of Arroyo Grande, their officers and employees, agents, servants, and all representatives and sponsors from any injury that I or my child may sustain, or any damage that may be caused to my or my child's property, in connection with said activities or use of such facilities or services, including injuries sustained or property damage caused by any use of equipment I may rent from the City of Arroyo Grande, their officers, agents, servants, or sponsors.   

I acknowledge participants may be photographed while utilizing the facility, services, or participating in a City of Arroyo Grande program and that said photographs, or likeness of me, may be used to publicize activities as the City deems appropriate.
